The addition to our electricity and gas commercial offer is a fundamental step towards fulfilling our energy transition roadmap.
The acquisition of Viesgo assets is in line with our 2020 strategy, which includes the development of new areas of activity linked to the energy transition through low-emission initiatives. With this strategic update, we are anticipating major trends such as the increase in electricity demand and the key role of gas in the energy transition.
With the acquisition of Viesgo’s low-emission assets, we incorporated hydroelectric power plants located in northern Spain with a capacity of 700 MW and great potential for organic growth. We also acquired two gas combined cycle plants in Algeciras (Cádiz) and Escatrón (Zaragoza). Between them, they have a combined capacity of 1,650 MW. Viesgo’s coal-fired plants are excluded from the transaction.
These new assets reinforce our position as a multi-energy supplier, making the company a relevant player in the Spanish electricity market, with a total installed capacity of 2,950 MW (2,350 MW from the Viesgo plants, plus 600 MW from our existing cogeneration plants). Our goal is to reach a low-emission generation capacity of around 4,500 MW by 2025.
